Adi Kimhi is a pioneer and leader in the field of programmed cell death and control of the physiological balance of cells under stress conditions through autopsy.

Moreover, Kimchi discovered a method of epigenetic silencing that led to the diagnosis and prediction of cancer development and was widely used in the treatment of malignant diseases.
Epigenetic silencing

Adi Kimhi isolated new genes through which she identified various types of programmed cell death, the genes were identified through a pioneering technique that she developed. One of the isolated genes depresses the development of cancer. In addition, she has developed new approaches to understanding and analyzing a protein network that monitors death processes and lives in cells. Until the 1990s, most of the information about genes responsible for cellular death was based on invertebrate studies.

Kimchi also discovered a recycling process in cells that keeps the body tissues functioning properly. Kimchi has developed a new method for identifying "hidden" genes that play key roles in the biochemical communication pathways and "control" the central nodes of the network. Using this method, it was possible to detect five genes associated with death-causing processes in cells. The development of the method and the identification of genes have gained wide international recognition.
